Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

It is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month! I know this is very real and apart of your every day lives but I just want you to know, you are not alone. Even in your deepest, darkest days – hold on to that thread of hope and push through because you are unique in every way. If you need a friend, I am here. Seriously, contact me – I will do my best to be there for you in every way possible. Or of course, you can reach out to a close personal friend or family member too – just know that there is hope and stay strong.

The mental health stigma is quite an interesting one, especially for how prominent it is. Over the past few weeks, I have ran into an issue (like may of you) that I find heart breaking and it is connected with the mental health theme.

As I mentioned, I have tried to schedule a therapy session for…easily a month? Ah, but to no avail – it has been silent for weeks. However, a faint glimmer of hope struck me and I did finally hear back from her last Friday for this Monday…but I have a job. I need a more advanced notice than 8P on a Friday…so I responded right back for her  other availability for the rest of the week and you know what? It is almost 8P Tuesday and I still have not heard a thing.

Hello!? Any one!?

I think I am done. Perhaps opening up her own practice has become more consuming than she realized, but I cannot have a wishy washy therapist! In terms of stability, she should be the rock for sure, right!? At least that is what I expect from a mental health professional. But perhaps I ask too much -.-. Now, I will have my moment and move on!

Now you know what this means, I must search for another soul to try to reach the same level of comfort. I fucking hate this idea and it gives me raging anxiety. So, the hunt begins. I will keep you posted on that, I feel there should be a site like Match but for therapists!? I fill out my profile, some fancy algorithm finds me a potential match, we have coffee and see if this thing is a go, before throwing out co-payments and a million questions later and packets that killed a small forest, only to find this fucker is a jack ass and wasted all of our time.  Perhaps this will be my money maker, if no one else has taken it yet. DON’T STEAL IT!

ANYWAY..whew. Sorry about that rant, it has been building for a minute.

What I am trying to say is, the struggle is real boo, but I got you. A whole community has you and if you ever need help in a more private matter, do not be afraid to pick up your phone or send a text! You can find hotline numbers for all across the world –> here

I love the idea of Match for therapists. If you’re lucky to go to a larger practice, or one supported by your state/ city/ university, then sometimes you can be screened pre-therapy to be matched with a therapist who is most likely to meet your needs. But if that’s not an option then it can be a challenge. Maybe this is a good thing in disguise, though; because if she’s too busy to return your call than maybe she might not be as fully present in your sessions. There are less busy therapists out there. My problem isn’t having someone return my calls, though, but finding time between my jobs and stuff to get an appointment because they don’t work on the weekends.

Hi Laura! Sorry for the delay girl, you know you are absolutely right. I hate it, but it truly is a blessing in disguise, I don’t want someone to only be half there, you know? That is not how care should go. Thank you for your support and words.

The scheduling is difficult isn’t it? While looking around at therapists, I saw some places were only open until 4-5, no weekends, it makes it really hard. I get that they have lives too but… a little flexibility please! Have you had any luck since your comment? ❤

This idea of “Match for Therapists” is a darn good one(!) I’m sorry you feel so let down with therapy right now, Katrina… when I’ve had bad experiences in that area I took solace in the fact that, sometimes, speaking to the right friends worked just as well — true, they don’t have professional training, but you do know you can count on them!
Speaking of which, it’s nice to know you’re offering to be there to listen to others… it does you great credit. 🙂

Haha, oh I know that feeling well… sadly!
Not sure why it is but we mostly treat ourselves more harshly than we do our friends, don’t we?
Very nice to hear from you — I’m having a rough weekend, so I’m holding on to the thought of a chilled evening! ❤ 🙂

Haha, I find I’m using “Meh” a lot more nowadays(!) Could have been worse though, eh?
Aww you’re very kind — sadly I’m just getting over a cold, which has thrown my whole week into chaos… but I’m going to be an optimist and use this as a wake up call to fully appreciate those times when I’m not ill!
Lovely to see your name in my notifications too Katrina. ❤️ 🙂
